jack's
house

We worked closely with the neighbours and the local authority in order to come up with the most efficient drainage methods, particularly around the basement. The house is two stories from the front and three from the back. The lower ground floor is a masonry construction and the top floors, for budget reasons, are partly timber framed. Handmade bricks and natural slate give a traditional appearance to the property. See the article featured on suppliers website.

Classical timber sash windows following generous Georgian proportions were strictly adhered to. The house is built around a wonderful open gallery which is very striking when you first enter the house. This also gives an amazing feeling of space in the main living areas.

"It’s a confusing world with builders and working out who to select to build and materialise your dream, I was scared of horror stories and chose Jaques Construction because of some solid recommendations. We even had them run the project without a QS or architect, and everything single thing they did was on time and on budget. We ALWAYS knew where we were.

The project itself ran beautifully, and Jaques seemed to realise that they were creating a dream rather than just another house, and treated the project that way from start to finish. The old saying goes, buy cheap buy twice, and that is sadly something you are unlikely to have the option to do with your dream house."

THE ENQUIRY

A family connection meant that we were involved in the project from conception.

THE BRIEF

The house was designed around the clients’ wishes to be able to accommodate guests comfortably. The sloped plot needed to be re-shaped to allow a large, level garden space for a young family.

COSTING AND PLANNING

Our planning consultant oversaw a successful appeal which meant that the clients’ were able to get everything they wanted from the build. A stringent budget was set for the structural element of the build from the onset and adhered to throughout.
